Be careful ‘brethren’ (that includes u NC)

He who opens a school door, closes a prison. ~ Victor Hugo

Bigotry is the disease of ignorance, of morbid minds; enthusiasm of the free and buoyant. Education and free discussion are the antidotes of both. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you gain at one end you lose at the other. It’s like feeding a dog on his own tail. It won’t fatten the dog.
~ Mark Twain

“Wherever the deaf have received an education the method by which it is imparted is the burning question of the day with them, for the deaf are what their schooling make them more than any other class of humans. They are facing not a theory but a condition, for they are first, last, and all the time the people of the eye.” ~ George W. Veditz

Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army. ~ Edward Everet

Man’s most human characteristic is not his ability to learn, which he shares with many other species, but his ability to teach and store what others have developed and taught him. ~ Margaret Mead

“The aim [of education] must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who, however, see in the service to the community their highest life problem.” ~ Albert Einstein

A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. ~ Malcolm X

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.  ~ Malcolm X

The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society.  The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.~ MLK

To save man from the morass of propaganda, in my opinion, is one of the chief aims of education. Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction. ~ MLK

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
~ Nelson Mandela

It is not heroin or cocaine that makes one an addict, it is the need to escape from a harsh reality. There are more television addicts, more baseball and football addicts, more movie addicts, and certainly more alcohol addicts in this country than there are narcotics addicts.~ Shirley Chisholm

“One cannot expect positive results from an educational or political action program which fails to respect the particular view of the world held by the people. Such a program constitutes cultural invasion, good intentions notwithstanding.” ~ Paulo Freire

“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.” ~ Paulo Freire

Tragedy is when the masses know nothing of the good because they are fed nothing but the bad and deem it of normality. ~ Jeffrey A. Roberts

We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education. The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate.

If we are not careful, our colleges will produce a group of close-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful, “brethren!” Be careful, teachers! ~ MLK (The Purpose of Education, 1947)

  1. Don’t hate on an entire state(NC). 39% of us voted, persuaded, and rallied to stop the fear that the 61 percent thrive on. We in the minority (for now) know that our votes were powerful and will continue to fight the discrimination that is perpetuated by this unconscionable law.

  2. Glenda –

I ain’t got no hate for NC – just had words of caution. I thank u for educating me about that 39% – that is mighty fine to learn about Thank u for standing by the courage of our convictions and the creed of this country that all folks are created equal.

If there is anything we out-of-staters can do to aid u all as u endeavor to tip the % in favor of the truth and justice just let us know

W/ u in spirit and solidarity

And yep that unconsiencable law has gotta go

    Much peace & love
