Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Dear Mr. Graham and Ms. Boswell,
I am a Deaf mother of two Deaf children. My children speak ASL, and I speak ASL as well. I say this upfront so that you don’t get too excited about trying to recruit my children and myself.
I understand that you’ve been rather naughty as of lately. Your organization sent letters of invitation and temporary membership cards to people who work at schools for the deaf. Tsk tsk. Now that’s going over the line, you know. Did you really think you could convert people, who use ASL in their daily lives, to the wonders of oralism?
Is your organization really that hard up for new members? Isn’t the money you’re already getting enough? Your organization sleeps with cochlear implant companies, audiologists, medical professionals, and so on. I understand that it’s all nice and cozy and that you’re all on the same page: y’all don’t want Deaf people to be, well, “Deaf.” You even went so far to call teachers who work at schools for the deaf as “hearing specialists.” They do work with Deaf children, you know. They don’t work with hearing children.
In fact, I’d recommend that you change the name of your organization to: Alexander Graham Bell Association for Hearing Wannabes. That is at least honest and upfront about what your organization really wants to accomplish.
Now…behave, willya? Don’t make us come over and spank you.
